With advancements in image guided surgery and neurosurgical technology, BrainLAB AG developed the first fully integrated intra-operative MRI Neurosurgery Suite. Jeffrey Berman Architect was asked to integrate this first-of-its-kind system into the Neurosurgery Department of Staten Island University Hospital. The suite consisted of an operating room, equipment room and additional ancillary space totaling 2,000 square feet. Close collaboration was required among the architect, engineers, German manufacturers, and client in order to ensure that the German-based system would be successfully integrated into the Hospital while abiding by New York State Hospital Code requirements.
