Jeffrey Berman Architect has been a key member of the design team for the Zuckerman Large Animal Facility from its inception through to the present. JBA’s work has moved along two tracks: first, as the designer of the experimental translational facilities whose OR’s were the precursor to the Center for Image Guided Intervention; and as the consultant for the animal imaging programming and schematics phases to Skidmore Owens Merrill. Most recently, JBA was responsible for detailed design and construction documents for the animal MR’s that include 4.7T, 7.3T and 9.4T, PET, MicroPET, Gamma and HDR and opened in 2011. Working with the physicians at MSKCC, JBA designed a large EmblemHealth EmblemHealth EmblemHealth animal imaging facility with teaching capability in simulation and live training space adjacent to the OR’s. The techniques developed here were combined with provisions for later development of computerized patient information routing used in the Center for Image Guided Intervention and Minimally Invasive Surgery where the minimally invasive approach to surgery reduces patient recovery time and and the length of hospital stay.
