NEW YORK-PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL

Gamma Knife

Location: New York, NY
Size: 2,600 square feet
Project: Equipment Upgrade, Modernization

The Gamma Knife, a stereotactic Radiosurgery system specific to the head and neck, began as an equipment upgrade project and expanded into the renovation of the department at New York Presbyterian Hospital. The design features private patient bays with individual lighting and audio-visual controls to relax patients who spend the whole day at the medical center while they are interviewed, imaged and prepared for treatment.

Design efforts were focused on providing a relaxing environment for patients undergoing Radiosurgery. The undulating bamboo ceiling, calming tones on the walls of the procedure room and the utilization of rich finishes outside the procedure room deliver a soothing and contemporary aura. The ergonomic reception and control desk increase patient privacy while improving patient monitoring and enhancing the patient experience. Jeffrey Berman Architect enhanced the standard of care with this equipment upgrade, reorganized and improved patient flow as well as the staff work process.
