The Wish4Life Foundation is building a 100-bed children’s cancer center outside of Accra in Ghana. The standard of care and the scientific medical models are based on the systems and protocols of Memorial Sloan-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The Foundation selected Sir David Adjaye as the building architect for the site design, the core, and shell of the hospital, and the campus planning for a modern world class contextually appropriate building for the site in Ghana.   The Foundation selected Jeffrey Berman Architect as the hospital and medical planner to program, plan and design the Hospital within the signature building.

The 400,000 square-foot hospital is sited on a 55-acre campus with staff housing, family housing for outpatients, utility buildings, and a chapel.  The hospital includes a complete complement of all the oncology, diagnostic, and treatment modalities used at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and the other world-class cancer centers.  Departments include Radiology, Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Pharmacy, Pharmacy, and laboratories for pathology, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, genomics, and personalized medicine.  Other resources and programs in the building include an urgent care facility, and ambulatory outpatient practice suite, a large conference center, a cafeteria and food service program for  hospital patients, staff, and families on the site

The programming and planning of the hospital centered on modern Western standards of care for the medical facilities while being mindful and reflective of local African cultures. The goal is to build a modern hospital to serve the children of Ghana and western Africa on a large rural site with a view to becoming a world-class institution able to draw staff and patients from around the world.
