NEW YORK-PRESBYTERIAN BROOKLYN METHODIST HOSPITAL

Central Pharmacy

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Size: 12,000 square feet
Project: Expansion, Renovation

The new USP 797 and 800 Sterile Compounding Pharmacy at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital was required to meet new 797/800 sterile compounding regulations and to replace end of life robotics with new systems and automation.  The complete replacement and expansion of the pharmacy was undertaken to support a new outpatient facility, oncology program and the Hospital’s 500 in-patient beds.  The project was planned to maintain operations through construction.

Part of the programming and planning focused on the infrastructure required for the sterile work areas and an analysis of the supply chain, inventory and delivery logistics.  Storage was optimized to provide for minimal handling of bulk deliveries and security for high value and controlled substances.  Delivery systems including P tubes were redesigned and optimized to minimize transit times across two city blocks. The pharmacy space spanned the repurposed conference and office spaces in two buildings.

All of the infrastructure systems were replaced to meet current environmental standards.  Robotics from RIVA mixed sterile compounds.  Swisslog provided P tubes, pill picker and box picker robotic dispensing equipment.

AKF Group was the MEP engineer.
